Cutty Sark 2 Logo Design

Creating a logo for the replica of the british sailing vessel Cutty Sark.
The demands were:
modern, elegance, for an audience 18-35yrs
and especially no blind repeat of the too well known sailing vessels silhouettes.

Sails would be nice, but were no "must have".

But I wanted to do something with sails, because I am a sailing ship lover! And a logo for a sailing vessel without sails in it would look too cold and too distant from the subject itself.

I tried some sketches with sails from the flying jib to foremast to main mast, but it didn't work well.
It always looked too stuffed for one simple logo.

So below is the final version with just a simple intimation of a sailing vessel. Not a full rigged ship like the Cutty Sark 2 and without the flying jib, but ship enough to indicate the main subject.
One of the first sketches.
And an early and finally unfinished version.
The sketch to the final design.
A variation with a dynamic wave.
Another variation with the sails connected to the "2" and a slightly adjusted 2.
